Some customers prefer their dog to have long hair or a full coat and they can be accommodated, but customers who have this preference need to consider the extra work that full coats require. With long hair & full coats there is usually:
- More matting, tangling, and building up of undercoat. Thus, more maintenance is required if you intend to keep your dog's hair long. The owner will need to be diligent about combing the dog regularly between cuts to prevent mats and tangles.
- A higher grooming cost. Because long hair can mat and tangle more easily, the grooming cost will usually be more in order to factor in the time spent de-tangling the coat.
- More haircuts required. In order to maintain any dog's haircut, they need to come in every 6 to 8 weeks, but dogs that have long hair will also need to come to us for baths in between cuts (about every 2 weeks) so their coat remains manageable between haircuts.
